In better news - I got Apple to replace the battery in a 9 year old MacBook Pro
#1
There was a recall on the battery. If I remember correctly, some swelled....which is bad. I kept the recall in my back pocket all these years. Recently the OS was complaining that the battery was 'used up' and I figure I shouldn't wait too much longer. I'm not sure how much longer Apple will have parts for a 2015 macbook pro.

Nice little victory among more expensive problems. (see thread below)

Hmm just bought a 2015 MBP and was unaware of the battery issue. Any links to the situation?

I am surprised, they usually declare stuff vintage after 7 years.

Hmmm. I didn’t know about the battery issue. I had the battery in my 2015 MBP replaced about a year ago at Simple Mac. It didn’t occur to me to take it to the Apple Store. I discovered that the battery had gone puffy when I opened it to see about replacing the drive with a bigger one.

Simple Mac didn't know about the recall?

Authorized service providers may not check for such things, just charge you for the repair and materials.

Apparently not. I'd already needed to have the logic board replaced on that MBP, when Rossmann's was still here in NYC. It was a refurb I bought late in 2018. I vaguely recall checking the serial against a list of models affected by some issue, probably the battery. Mine wasn't on the list.

in my exp, many apple reps don't know about recalls unless they look it up and there was one or two that needed a bit more prodding.

I wonder if you can file for a refund from Apple, assuming you still have the receipts from SimpleMac.
