The death of science in the United States of America
#1
That is what Trump and the Republican Party are doing. Research ? Gone. Basic science ? Gone. Universities that turn out scientists capable of building the 22nd century ? Destroyed. Intelligent students ? Put in concentration camps or deported or imprisoned in a foreign country.

They are not only destroying our country, they are destroying our hope of a future.

That’s what MAGAts voted for. Promises made, promises kept.

Speedy…. MAGA voted for their single issues. Racism, abortion, fear. Because they didn’t listen to anyone telling them what was coming. And we are all reaping that whirlwind.

Racism, abortion, fear, religion, guns, misogyny, anti vaccinations, and probably a few others.

I think this is right. Anti-higher Ed, anti-science, anti-intellectual movements were there, but I don't think those folks thought through what our society might look like if their wishes were acted upon.
They are the ultimate "dogs who caught the car" folks.

a bright spot here.. I'm hearing that scientists and others at places like NIH and NSF, including people who have lost their jobs, are still finding ways to funnel money to ongoing clinical trials and projects.

On the other side, don't believe this administration when they claim to have restarted funding. For example, the funding for the Women's Health Initiative has not been restored, though that was promised.

Just so much destructive, pointless chaos.

Why is anyone surprised? Their stated goal was to take us BACK 100+ years. And they are succeeding.

I realize you're only talking about a relative handful of non-citizen students at the moment, but without due process and imminent suspension of habeas corpus by the usurper king's administration, a chill ran through me thinking they could come for anyone everyone holding or seeking a college degree... Somehow the leaders of the death cult will, of course, get a pass. I really fear we may be at the precipice of our own great leap forward.

Why hasn't a kickstarter been put together for WHI yet? There's no need for government funding for such a small project. The price of a fancy latte for the wealthiest 1% OF WOMEN. I'm definitely willing to put money down for it.
