So I had my current mattress for about 3 years. Then I started to notice I was having more and more shoulder and neck pain. I only spent about $500 at the time, which to me, seemed like a lot.
So then decided to 'upgrade' over the July 4 sales at Macy's. I picked up a Sealy something-or-other with a plush pillowtop; never had a pillowtop before, and it felt super nice at the showrrom. It was about $750 for just the mattress with the sale (I have a platform frame; it "retailed" for something crazy like $1400, whatever that means).
Anyway, I've been using it for a couple weeks now. But now I wake up much more tired than I used to on my old bed. I literally have bags under my eyes, and I never have bags under my eyes! I also have some crazy neck and shoulder ache, but it's a little different than with my old mattress. I also feel much, much more tired when I wake up, and this is after at least 8-8.5 hours of sleep!
I think it's the pillowtop; I'm sinking into it a lot more, which initially feels pretty good, but maybe over the course of the night it's not a good thing? Maybe I should have opted for the 'plain' plush instead of the plush pillowtop?
My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy, but I am considering sending it back and picking out another one. I don't think I can sleep on this for another 5-10years!
What to do! Is this just a break-in period?
