Recently I have had difficulty adjusting my iPhone volume using the rocker switch on the side of the case. Today I noticed that the case was creased across the part of the switch that increases volume and that the switch did not move when pressed.
I just now called the Apple Store in Austin to ask how much a new case would cost. They asked if I had AppleCare and when I said no I was told that it would cost me $249 for them to tell me how much a new case would cost. At first I thought I had misunderstood but they said no, that's the price for the information I needed. I was told that I could bring the iPhone to the store, approximately 50 miles from where I live, and there would be no charge for them to tell me the price. I guess $8 worth of gas and 3 hours of my time is better than having to pay $249.
I should have told them I have been a loyal Apple customer since 1979, that I have six active Macs (three bought in the last year) and an attic full of old ones, and that I own 300 shares of AAPL, but that probably would not have impressed them.
