Converting PC Tiff to Mac Tiff
#1
I have been asked to convert 130 TIFF files which are all "PC TIFF" to "MAC TIFFS". I can automate this so not really a big deal. However, is there an easy way in Photoshop to "CHECK" to see how the original file was saved? If not, any small apps to do so? Just want to double check that they have been all converted to Mac Tiff's when I'm done.

Oh, and what the heck is the difference? The PC Tiff's are importing into Mac Quark just fine.

as far as I know there is no difference except that the preview image.

If you are getting paid to do it, that is found money...

It's for my father. So, if it's a quick thing I can automate he won't get a bill. Besides, he's my dad... Oh, and just handed him two freelance invoices this morning. Wink

I did tell him that I didn't think it mattered. However, it's for his client's job and didn't want to take a chance seeing his clients are on mac's and so is the printer. He agreed that he didn't really think it mattered.

I send mac tiff to my prepress guys all the time.

They never seem to have a problem.

A tiff is as tiff.

Except for the preview thatis missing.

Not true. Some PC applications that work with tiffs can't open Mac byte order tiffs.

I'd bet my house on that, would you?

Like what? Photoshop? InDesign? Quark?
Anybody dealing with TIFFS x-platform these days shouldn't have a problem, in my experience.

I wouldn't use Photoshop for this.

I'd use GraphicConverter, saving www-ready so there's no icon/resource-fork issue if the files have to be transferred back to a PC at some point.

I use software that you don't. There are more image-related software apps than Quark and Adobe.

aka SAI ImageExpress

Someone owes me a free house.

There are plenty of RIP applications that don't like Mac tiffs. Granted, most are older. But you would be surprised how many print shops run off 8 year old hardware and software.
