In better news - I got Apple to replace the battery in a 9 year old MacBook Pro

I wonder if you can file for a refund from Apple, assuming you still have the receipts from SimpleMac.

I tend to doubt it. It wasn't listed as one of the models with battery issues, as best I can recall.

I wound up getting a 2015 refurb because of the mess Apple made of the next round of MBPs. Since its issues have been fixed, it has been rock solid.

Congrats on this. I also had a swelling battery replaced on an old MBP that was well out of warranty and mine wasn't even being recalled.

Just last week, forum member lost in space was looking for advice on whether to replace a swelling battery on a 2015 MacBook Pro:

I didn't know about the recall, but I suggested going to the Genius Bar based on my experience.
