Helicopter in convoy carrying Iranian president crashes - state media
#21
"The helicopter crashed due to a “technical failure,” the IRNA state news agency said in an English-language article paying tribute to Raisi. It appeared to be the first time the cause of the crash was indicated."

Earlier:
"State media reported that images from the site showed the U.S.-made Bell 212 helicopter slammed into a mountain peak, although there was no official word on the cause of the crash."

"The ICAO designator for this aircraft as used in a flight plan is "B212". Bell developed the Model 212 further with the Bell 412; the major difference being the composite four-blade main rotor. The last Bell 212 was delivered in 1998."

This was a 26 year old helicopter, at least. Carrying a head of state in difficult flying conditions.

Marine-1, the Sikorsky VH-3d (a varient of the Sea King) has been in service transport the President of the the United states since 1976 - 48 years.

The replacement, a Sikorsky VH-92A, has not been certified to fly the President or Vice President because it lacks an encrypted communications system.

All of POTUS' transport vehicles including the Boeing planes have custom replacement parts made for them when needed, and top notch maintenance. Obama was flying around in an older jet.

That is required when these older flying machines are in continued use by the government.

It will be interesting to see if preventable mechanical failure led to the death of Iran's president.

BEIRUT — Palestinian militant groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, both combatants against Israeli forces in the ongoing war in Gaza and both of which have received military support from Tehran, issued statements Monday mourning the deaths of Iran’s president and foreign minister.

Hamas said the helicopter crash had “claimed the lives of a group of the best Iranian leaders,” praising their “honorable positions in support of our Palestinian cause, and support for the legitimate struggle of our people against the Zionist entity,” referring to Israel.

“We are confident that the Islamic Republic of Iran will be able — God willing — to overcome the repercussions of this great loss. The dear Iranian people have ancient institutions capable of dealing with this severe ordeal,” the statement said.

The Islamic Jihad, similarly, called the deaths of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian “a great loss for the Palestinian people in these difficult circumstances, as they had a prominent and clear role in supporting and assisting the Palestinian people’s struggle and resistance.”

I think a majority do, but there are enough who approve of this hard line regime stuck in the 13th century.

I have an Iranian American friend who often says the people who rule Iran now do not love the people. I think he is right.

The people have a duty to love them as Allah's true minister-warriors here on Earth.

The same can be said about those who rule Gaza.

Reports of any sort of aircraft crash in that part of the world as resulting from accident strain credulity.

Normally I would agree but after seeing video of the fog, not this time.
Agreed. The first thing I thought of upon hearing of the foggy conditions was Kobe's helicopter crash under similar conditions.

From what I can tell, the feeling is mutual.
